I was an officer in the British Parachute Regiment for 16 years with service in Northern Ireland, Kuwait/Iraq and Bosnia/Serbia (Kosovo). I also have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Oxford, specialising in Thermodynamics and Fluid Dynamics. Hence, I love my motorcycles and their maintenance manuals! I am also a licensed amateur radio operator in the UK, Hong Kong and The Philippines.
As a War Veteran, I fully appreciate that life can be utter chaos at times, with pain and suffering at unexpected moments. Before joining the College Faculty, I had always been a dormant Stoic, but there is much more to being a Stoic than emotionless expressions in the face of adversity. It is also about social responsibilities and giving others insightful wisdom (based on experiences and learning) to aid them in the brief time we all have.
